PRESS RELEASE – 18th November 2006

Artist to Sign Limited Edition Prints at Govilon Village Heritage Event

Artist Michael Blackmore at work on one of the specially commissioned drawingsWell-known local artist Michael Blackmore is renowned for his fine black-and-white line drawings bringing local history to life. On Saturday, 18th November, he will be the guest of Govilon Heritage as they unveil their exclusive limited edition prints of his work – and put up the second Information Board on their Heritage Trail.

The prints are from two original drawings featuring the historic Bailey's Tramroad and the unusual Govilon Aqueduct with horse-drawn barges carrying iron and stone along the canal. These drawings were commissioned by Govilon Heritage during the construction of the Village Heritage Trails. Michael will be signing a small number of these very special Giclée art prints, available for sale on the day on a first-come, first served basis.

The Village Heritage event will take place in Govilon Village Hall in the morning, from 10am onwards. There will be a display featuring the Heritage Trails and Govilon.com website, and the Village Book and Heritage Trail leaflets will be on sale.

Up Station Road, beside the canal bridge, members of Govilon Heritage and Brecon Beacons National Park Authority will install the second of the Information Boards, which features the story of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal.

Mrs Frances Baines, Chairman of Govilon Heritage, said, "We're so pleased Michael is able to be with us for the event. The Giclée prints are the work of John Roland, from his studio on the Sugar Loaf and they are really beautiful. I think they would be perfect for Christmas presents, although the original reason for producing them was that we wanted local residents to be able to have these special Govilon drawings in their own homes."
