LLANWENARATH ULTRA in the upper division of the hundred of Abergavenny, is a parish of some extent: it was formerly united with Llanewenarth Citra but is now a distinct parish. It contains the village of Govilon, in which is situated a church; a handsome stone ediface dedicated to Christ. There is an iron works here, also a station on the Merthyr, Tredegar, and Abergavenny section of the London & North West Railway. The village is about two and half miles from Abergavenny. Population of the parish in 1861: 2,096.

Post Office, Govilon, Ebenezer Williams (Post Master). Letters from all parts arrive (from Abergavenny) at twenty minutes past seven morning, and are dispatched at half past four afternoon.
